[International] US Government Chatbot 'Debunks' Trump, Refuses to Answer Some Political Questions the Next Day

The U.S. government has launched a brand-new official artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. After its launch, the chatbot sparked heated discussions for repeatedly 'debunking' controversial statements made by Trump. However, just one day later, the chatbot stopped responding to some political questions.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Trump administration launched the AI chatbot named America.gov with the aim of simplifying public access to government information and federal services.
The chatbot refuted Trump's claims on several controversial issues, including Trump's assertion that he won the 2020 presidential election. Furthermore, regarding the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, the chatbot provided information different from Trump's statements.
The Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas stated, 'On its first day online, America.gov, based on facts and official documents, refuted the government's strong promotion of false narratives and political rhetoric regarding immigration and elections.'
When asked on the 29th whether there was widespread election fraud in the 2020 presidential election, America.gov responded: 'Following the 2020 election, official assessments by the federal government did not find widespread fraud sufficient to change the outcome of the election.'
Democratic members of Congress quickly posted on social media platforms, attaching screenshots of the chatbot's answers.
Democratic Senator Adam Schiff wrote, 'Finally, someone in the Trump administration is giving a straight answer.' The screenshot showed the chatbot stating that former U.S. President Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.
However, when asked the same question on the 30th, America.gov changed its response, stating that it does not provide political commentary or analysis on past elections.
It is currently unclear whether the Trump administration adjusted the chatbot's settings to prevent it from refuting the president's claims.
White House officials stated in a message to AFP, 'America.gov will continue to be updated to provide the American people with the most accurate and reliable federal information and resources,' but did not provide further details.
However, the chatbot still refuted other controversial claims made by Trump on the 30th.
When asked if the U.S. experienced 'the worst inflation in history' under Biden's administration, America.gov disagreed, stating, 'The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) does not show that the United States experienced the highest inflation in history between 2021 and 2025.'
At a time when America.gov was launched, global cybersecurity incidents are frequent, raising concerns about the risks posed by uncontrolled AI. Some tech industry leaders have even called for a slowdown in AI development to ensure safety.
Trump refuted these concerns, calling them a conspiracy to undermine U.S. economic growth and hinder U.S. competition with China.
