Taiwanese archer Chang Cheng-wei advanced all the way to the gold medal match in the men's compound archery individual event at the Nagoya Asian Games today (1st). In the final, he faced Kim Jongho of South Korea and ultimately lost 145-149, taking home the silver medal. This is his first time on the Asian Games individual podium, surpassing his previous achievement of reaching the quarterfinals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, and setting a new personal best at the Asian Games. This is also Taiwan's first medal in the compound archery individual event in the history of the Asian Games. Chang Cheng-wei advanced through the rounds today. In the quarterfinals, he narrowly won 144-143 by one point to advance. In the semifinals, he faced Dang Cong Duc of Vietnam and won again 145-144, winning by just one point in two consecutive matches to secure a spot in the gold medal match. In the final, Chang Cheng-wei shot 28 points in the first set, while Kim Jongho scored 29. Chang Cheng-wei then shot 29 points for the next three sets, and a perfect 30 in the final set, totaling 145 points over five sets. However, Kim Jongho only scored 9 points on one of his 15 arrows, with the other 14 arrows scoring 10 points, ultimately winning the gold medal with 149 points. Chang Cheng-wei took the silver medal by a margin of 4 points. At this Nagoya Asian Games, Chang Cheng-wei, along with Yen Tzu-hsiang and Chen Chieh-lun, were members of the Taiwanese men's compound archery team. The trio first won a bronze medal in the men's team event, and now Chang Cheng-wei has added a silver medal in the individual event, bringing his personal total for this Games to 1 silver and 1 bronze.
