On the afternoon of the 28th, a dangerous sewer (water supply pipe) construction accident occurred in Fengyuan District, Taichung City. A total of 5 workers felt unwell and were sent to the hospital, including 3 Vietnamese migrant workers and 2 Taiwanese employees. Fortunately, after the full rescue efforts by the police and firefighters, all 5 are out of danger. 📌 Accident Details and Rescue Situation: 8-Meter Underground Gas Crisis: The incident occurred at the intersection of Fengyuan Avenue Section 5 and Shuiyuan Road. A migrant worker was working inside a narrow, hot underground pipe 8 meters deep when they suspected carbon monoxide poisoning due to high concentrations (up to 150 PPM). Risky Rescue Attempt Nearly Caused Chain Casualties: Three other employees immediately went down to rescue, but due to poor ventilation, they were unable to pull the person out for nearly an hour. Subsequently, another employee joined to assist, resulting in all 5 experiencing symptoms of poisoning and discomfort, prompting them to call 119. Hospitalization: The fire department dispatched a large team, carrying oxygen tanks and using ropes and rescue vehicles to extricate the trapped migrant worker. One Vietnamese migrant worker was unconscious upon rescue and had a burn on their back. All 5 were sent to Fengyuan and Taichung Tzu Chi Hospitals and are now out of critical condition. 💡 Editor's Note (Confined Space Work Safety Promotion): Carbon monoxide or marsh gas poisoning is the most fatal invisible killer during "confined space" operations such as sewers, manholes, and shafts! We remind all employers and workers: If you find a colleague fainting in a poorly ventilated pit, do not rashly go down to rescue without an oxygen respirator, as this often leads to rescuers also becoming poisoned and unconscious. Before starting work, it is crucial to conduct gas detection and ensure ventilation equipment is continuously operating! When you work, do your bosses or site supervisors strictly enforce safety regulations regarding "ventilation and gas detection"? Have you ever encountered dangerous situations where you were asked to rush work despite insufficient equipment?
