Vice President Hsiao Mei-ching stated today (3rd) that every precious new immigrant is a connection between Taiwan and the world. Regardless of future global challenges, national survival, or industrial development, the participation of the new immigrant community and the next generation is needed. This afternoon, Vice President Hsiao attended a rally in support of Tainan mayoral candidate Chen Ting-fei of the Democratic Progressive Party, titled "We Are All One Family," where she also made Indonesian specialty snacks. Representatives of new immigrants also took the stage to open their "life suitcases," elaborating on their journey from Vietnam to Taiwan. Vice President Hsiao thanked new immigrants for crossing oceans to come to Taiwan, take root, and contribute to Taiwan's family care, economic development, and multiculturalism. She said she could imagine the many challenges new immigrants face upon arriving in Taiwan, but once they are here, they are part of Taiwan. Vice President Hsiao pointed out that her mother was also a new immigrant, marrying and coming to Taiwan by ship 60 years ago. Crossing the Pacific, she was unfamiliar with the land. At that time, there were not many new immigrants in Taiwan, and a letter between Taiwan and the United States took weeks to exchange. However, her mother lived in Tainan for 18 years, and what impressed her most was the warmth and hospitality of Tainan people. Vice President Hsiao further revealed that when she was in school, her mother couldn't understand the communication log from school, and her father was too busy, so she would write "Hsiao Mei-ching was very good today" herself, only to be immediately seen through by the teacher. Vice President Hsiao expressed that new immigrants coming to Taiwan hope for human warmth, kindness, and friendliness. Taiwan's policies can also be institutionalized to help new immigrants integrate into society and share their talents, ensuring more meticulous care for them in the future. Vice President Hsiao said that in the process of Taiwan's economic development, resources need to be shared among all citizens. Social welfare continues to expand, covering Long-Term Care 3.0 and related childcare services, to alleviate the burden of living, allowing Taiwan's next generation to grow up in a more diverse and friendly environment, and enabling the children of new immigrants to develop their talents. Vice President Hsiao emphasized that Taiwan's economic resources are continuously increasing, especially with the visible upward trend in economic performance over the past two to three years, which many countries envy. However, some of Taiwan's industries are facing emerging challenges and undergoing difficult transformations. At this time, capable and responsible individuals are needed to support all industries.
