The U.S. aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush arrived off the coast of the Thai resort island of Phuket today (4th), with approximately 4,800 personnel on board. The carrier is heading there for rest and recreation after months of supporting U.S. military operations in the Middle East. Multiple media outlets reported that the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier had been on mission in the Arabian Sea during the conflict with Iran. According to local media reports, the aircraft carrier will anchor offshore, and personnel are expected to disembark via the Phuket Deep Sea Port, staying on the popular southern resort island from the 4th to the 9th. Prior to this, another U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, docked at Laem Chabang in eastern Thailand for five days last month, with about 5,000 sailors and marines on board. The local mayor estimated that each U.S. service member from the Lincoln could spend up to 3,000 Thai baht (approximately NT$2,840) per day during their visit. Thailand is the United States' only treaty ally in mainland Southeast Asia.
