In convenience stores in Taiwan, clerks often ask:
"Invoice, save to carrier?" Many foreign residents who have just arrived in Taiwan don't understand at all the first time they hear it.
What is an "invoice"?
An "invoice" in Taiwan is similar to a receipt in many countries. It is a proof of consumption, a proof of purchase, and can be used for product returns, warranty repairs, or company reimbursements.
But Taiwan's invoices have a special function:
They can be used for lucky draws 💰💰💰💰 The government draws prizes every two months. If your invoice number wins, you can get:
200 NT dollars, 1,000 NT dollars, or even millions of NT dollars.
So many Taiwanese people save their invoices 🤑🤑🤑🤑
Then, what is a "carrier"?
A "carrier" is a storage tool for electronic invoices. What are common carriers?
1. Mobile barcode (most common) provided by the Ministry of Finance's electronic invoice system.
2. EasyCard
3. Credit card (please contact your issuing bank)
4. Convenience store membership apps: OPENPOINT/FamilyMart, etc.
"Saving to a carrier" has many benefits
Because:
- You don't get a lot of paper
- It's not easy to lose
- It automatically checks for prizes for you
- You will be notified directly if you win
Very convenient.
It's okay if you don't have a carrier.
You can directly say: "I want a paper invoice."
The clerk will print it out for you.
If you live in Taiwan long-term, often shop at convenience stores, and want to experience Taiwanese life
Because many foreigners are very surprised when they win the invoice lottery for the first time.
