The Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced today (3rd) the results of its survey on the consumption trends and satisfaction of international travelers to Taiwan last year. The results show that 99.36% of the surveyed travelers were satisfied or very satisfied, and 99.76% were willing to visit again. Furthermore, Taiwan received high praise from international travelers for its friendly hospitality, social order, transportation convenience, recreational environment, and accommodation facilities. The Tourism Administration pointed out that on a scale of 5, international travelers gave Taiwanese people's friendliness a score of 4.72, social order a score of 4.7, transportation convenience 4.69, recreational environment safety 4.66, and accommodation facilities safety 4.63. This demonstrates that Taiwan's tourism quality has received high international recognition. According to the latest statistics, the total number of international travelers to Taiwan last year was 8,574,547, an increase of 9.12% compared to the previous year. The total tourism expenditure of travelers in Taiwan (excluding international airfare) reached 11.033 billion US dollars, an increase of 10.02% compared to the previous year. The average daily spending per person was 185.14 US dollars, an increase of 1.26% compared to the previous year. The average length of stay was 6.95 nights, which was roughly the same as the previous year. As for the largest single source market last year, it was Japan, accounting for 17.3%. The US market showed characteristics of high spending and long stays. Although travelers from the US accounted for only 8.34% of arrivals, their total tourism expenditure for the year reached 1.704 billion US dollars, higher than Japan's 1.375 billion US dollars. Moreover, their average daily spending was 242.84 US dollars and their average length of stay was 9.81 nights, both higher than the overall average spending and length of stay. In terms of regional markets, the seven key countries in the New Southbound Policy accounted for 30% of the total, ranking first. Their total tourism expenditure for the year was also the highest among regional markets, reaching 3.725 billion US dollars, accounting for nearly 34%. Additionally, the increase in travelers from the Philippines, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, and even Europe, exceeded 100% compared to pre-pandemic levels. Specifically, the Philippines saw an increase of 123.11%, India 114.33%, Australia and New Zealand 109.05%, Vietnam 105.11%, Europe 104.33%, and Indonesia 102.26%. This indicates that Taiwan's active efforts in expanding diverse international markets in recent years have gradually shown results, making the international source market structure more balanced, diverse, and resilient. It is worth noting that among the travelers to Taiwan, independent travelers accounted for as high as 76.4%. Among the key factors influencing travelers' decisions to visit Taiwan, personal travelogues ranked first with 67.58%, followed by traveler reviews with 59.31%. This shows that sharing of real travel experiences and social media word-of-mouth have become important factors influencing the international tourism market. However, night markets remained the most visited attraction by international travelers to Taiwan, with 86.88%. The top three most memorable aspects for travelers were food (87.81%), visiting night markets (77.63%), and natural scenery (63.26%). Furthermore, compared to 2019, the proportion of travelers visiting historical sites increased to 64.58%, and participation in natural outdoor activities such as hiking and trekking also increased to 19.04%. Impressively, the proportion of international travelers visiting southern Taiwan last year reached 23.96%, surpassing central Taiwan (21.77%) for the first time, making it the second-largest tourist region after the north.
