Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing will pay an official visit to Thailand from the 6th to the 7th at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and will attend the 2026 Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum. According to the itinerary released by the Thai government, this will be Min Aung Hlaing's first official visit to Thailand since becoming president.
Following visits to Laos, India, and China, Min Aung Hlaing is making another overseas trip this year, scheduled to visit Thailand from the 6th to the 7th to continue promoting economic and security cooperation between Myanmar and its neighboring countries.
According to information released by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Min Aung Hlaing will attend the 2026 Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) in Bangkok on the 6th. The forum will be inaugurated with speeches by President of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Association Pisanu Suvanajata and Chairman of the Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) U Aye Win.
Anutin and Min Aung Hlaing will deliver keynote speeches at the forum, followed by a press conference hosted by Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
According to a press release from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anutin and Min Aung Hlaing will hold bilateral talks during their visit to discuss how to further deepen cooperation between the two countries to promote mutual interests and exchange views on cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
In addition, Min Aung Hlaing will meet with the acting Speaker of the Thai Parliament and the President of the Senate, and preside over the opening ceremony of the Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum.
According to the event agenda, the forum will also feature three panel discussions in the afternoon, covering topics such as creating a regulatory environment in Myanmar conducive to sustainable business development, reshaping Thailand-Myanmar connectivity, and exploring new industries, opportunities, and growth for bilateral business cooperation.
Since the Myanmar military staged a coup in 2021, accusing the previous year's election of fraud and overthrowing the elected government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar has been embroiled in nationwide conflict, with civil war continuing to rage to this day. Neighboring Thailand plays an important role in Myanmar's foreign relations, and Min Aung Hlaing's current visit is receiving high attention. (Editor: Liu Xianghua)
