The 45th William Jones Cup International Basketball Invitational Tournament will be held from August 14 to 29 at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium. The men's tournament will kick off from August 14 to 23, followed by the women's tournament from August 26 to 29. The Basketball Association held a press conference on the 5th to announce the participating teams, tournament format, and ticketing information, inviting fans to come and experience this summer's international basketball feast. This year's men's tournament will feature 8 teams, including host teams Taiwan Blue and Taiwan White, as well as Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Jordan, Malaysia, and the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine). Notably, UC Irvine, which won the 42nd Jones Cup in 2023 with an undefeated record in 8 games, is returning to Taiwan after 3 years, making them one of the highlights of this tournament. The women's tournament will see 6 teams competing: Taiwan Blue, Taiwan White, Japan, South Korea, Lebanon, and Thailand. The biggest change in this year's men's tournament is the adoption of a group-based double round-robin format for the preliminary rounds, replacing the previous single round-robin system. After the preliminary rounds, ranking matches and semifinals will be held based on team standings, increasing opportunities for teams to play against each other and enhancing the competitiveness and viewing experience. For the host Taiwanese teams, the men's Blue team will consist mainly of some Asian Games training squad members and new generation players, including overseas players like You Ai-che and Kao Po-kai. Several players who have previously represented Chinese Taipei White will also participate, with Ting Sheng-ju and Hsieh Ming-chun making their Jones Cup debut. The White team will be led by Chen Tzu-wei, bringing together young talents from domestic universities and professional leagues, along with overseas development players like Lin Hsien-wei and Liu Keng-hao, and two Taiwanese-American players, Che Yu-cheng and Huang Chun-ting, aiming to gain international competition experience through the Jones Cup. The women's Blue team will be based on the Asian Games training squad, led by experienced players such as Peng Shih-ching and Lin Yu-ting. The White team will be coached by Lin Chi-wen and will include overseas player Lin Chia-jung and several young collegiate players. The aim is to increase opportunities for the new generation of players to participate in international competitions and gain more practical experience by playing against teams from various countries. Tickets for this tournament will go on sale on August 10th at 12:00 PM via the Era Ticket system. General admission for the men's games will be NT$600, with reserved seats ranging from NT$1,000 to NT$2,000. For the women's games, general admission will be NT$200, with reserved seats ranging from NT$400 to NT$1,000. The games will also be broadcast live on the Videoland Television Network, the Videoland APP, and PTS+, allowing fans to cheer for the Taiwanese teams together.
