[International] Thailand Shooting: High School Eyewitness Says Gunman Fired at Least 15 Shots and Reloaded Magazine

A school shooting occurred at a secondary school in Thailand today (7th), resulting in multiple casualties. Eyewitness teachers and students told Radio Taiwan International (RTI) that they initially thought it was a prank until consecutive gunshots were heard, realizing someone was shooting on campus. Students hid in classrooms, locking doors and windows. Some cried in fear, while others bravely rushed out to warn others to flee.
The shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, a branch of Debsirin School in the suburbs of Bangkok. Thai media, citing data from the Thai Ministry of Health, reported that the incident resulted in 5 deaths, all teachers, and 22 injuries, with 9 in serious condition.
After the incident, a large number of police, military, and ambulances gathered inside and outside the school. Some teachers and students still on campus were in shock, with some hugging each other and crying.
Hemant, a mathematics and science teacher at the school, was teaching when the incident occurred. He said that when he first received messages in a group chat on his mobile phone, everyone was unsure of what was happening, "thinking it was just a joke or a prank." However, they later learned that the gunman was moving around the campus, first firing in one academic building and then going to another.
Hemant and his students immediately closed and locked the doors, pushed bookshelves to the entrance, and used tables to block the doorway. "I told them, no matter what, we cannot let him in." Hemant also instructed students to hold their book-filled backpacks and told them to "protect their bodies" if the gunman entered the classroom. The entire sheltering process lasted about 40 to 45 minutes.
Hemant, who has been teaching at the school for 4 years, said, "Several of the deceased were teachers I knew. This is a trauma." He recalled that almost all the third-year high school students in the classroom were crying. "The only thing I could do was tell them to be safe and comfort them."
Hemant, 34, revealed that he was also a bit scared, but seeing the students traumatized, he had to act like a man.
Phurin Khumchoo, a 17-year-old second-year high school student, said he saw the gunman and heard many gunshots. He said he rushed out of the classroom to warn those who didn't know what was happening. He told Radio Taiwan International (RTI), "I told them, the gunman is here, run, go to a safe place." He also pointed out that "the gunman once aimed the gun at him but didn't fire, for reasons unknown."
Phurin estimated that the gunman fired at least 15 shots and then reloaded the magazine. He recalled being very scared of being shot and very worried. He revealed that a senior student, like a brother to him, was shot, which made him very sad and he still hasn't fully recovered.
Additionally, some alumni returned to the campus to check after hearing about the shooting. They told Radio Taiwan International (RTI) that Debsirin Nonthaburi School is a well-known secondary school with a very high university admission rate, and its students consistently perform well in various competitions and academic pursuits.
