Hsu Chun-ying, chairperson of the Taiwan New Immigrants Development Association, was accused of violating the "Anti-Infiltration Act" and other crimes. Hsu Chun-ying, chairperson of the Taiwan New Immigrants Development Association, is suspected of collecting internal information of Taiwanese political parties for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She also supported Ko Wen-je, a candidate for the People First Party in the 2024 presidential election. Additionally, she was involved in underground remittances, loan fraud, and arranging for CCP officials to enter Taiwan under the guise of business. She was indicted on charges including the "Anti-Infiltration Act" and the "Banking Act," with a total sentence of 21 years and 6 months sought. On the 11th, the New Taipei District Court sentenced Hsu Chun-ying to a combined 7 years imprisonment.
At the MAC's regular press conference on the 13th, Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh stated that they have not yet seen the full judgment from the court and are unable to ascertain the specific reasons for the verdict. However, if, as reported by the media, the judge considered the infiltration source from whom Hsu Chun-ying received instructions to be of a low level, leading to a lenient sentence, it would not align with common sense.
Liang Wen-chieh further pointed out that the infiltration or command sources in such cases are usually not of high level. Liang Wen-chieh: "(Original sound) In many past cases, such as the Ma Chih-wei case and the Chou Man-chih case, the infiltration source's level was not even discussed. In Ma Chih-wei's case, the identity used was that of a foundation staff member, affiliated with a certain foundation, so it's difficult to even determine the level. We all know that individuals engaged in similar work will use various methods to conceal their identities. Therefore, we believe that the verdicts in similar cases are actually unrelated to the level of the infiltration source. If the prosecution appeals, we will provide our opinions to the judicial authorities, and I believe the National Security Bureau and the Investigation Bureau will also provide their opinions."
Regarding media reports that Sun Hsien, deputy director of the Shanghai Association for Promoting National Reunification, a key figure in the Hsu Chun-ying case, declared his CCP party, government, and military background when he entered Taiwan but was still granted entry, Liang Wen-chieh responded that the MAC's most recent review of Sun Hsien's declared information did not mention this. Therefore, the media reports might differ from the actual situation, and this issue can only be discussed after seeing the full judgment.
