[Finance] Financial Employment Gold Card Applications Exceed 1,000, Hong Kong Applicants Lead

The number of employment gold cards issued in the financial sector continues to grow. Since the policy's inception, over a thousand cards have been issued. As of the end of June this year, 92 cards were issued, an increase of nearly 30% year-on-year. The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) stated today (13th) that applicants are mostly of Chinese descent, attracted by Taiwan's convenient lifestyle and development environment, with Hong Kong having the most applicants. To attract overseas financial talent, the government has promoted the employment gold card policy. Foreign professionals can apply for an employment gold card from the National Immigration Agency, which integrates functions such as work permits, resident visas, alien resident certificates, and re-entry permits. The validity period is 1 to 3 years, during which individuals can freely seek, take up, and change jobs, and enjoy social security benefits such as national health insurance and labor retirement.
Lai Ming-hsien, Director of the FSC's Department of International Affairs, explained that as of the end of June this year, a cumulative total of 1,005 employment gold cards had been issued in the financial sector, accounting for about 6% of the total issued.
He stated that most applicants for the financial sector employment gold card are of Chinese descent, and Taiwan's convenient lifestyle and development environment hold a certain appeal for foreign talent. In terms of source countries or regions, Hong Kong has the most with 278 cards, followed by the United States, Singapore, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Last year, a total of 145 financial sector employment gold cards were issued. After revisions to the relevant regulations this year, 92 cards had been issued as of the end of June, a nearly 30% increase compared to 71 cards in the same period last year.
The employment gold card covers 12 major professional fields, including finance, with eligibility determined by the respective competent authorities. The FSC stated that it will assess market demand in the future and revise the recognition criteria through rolling reviews, hoping to attract scarce professional talent to Taiwan and enhance the competitiveness of the financial industry.
