[International] Thailand Plans to Increase Entry Fee for Foreign Tourists, Potentially by Q1 2027

The Thai government plans to increase the entry fee for foreign tourists from the originally planned 300 baht to 450 baht (approximately NT$435). If approved by the cabinet, it will be implemented as early as the first quarter of 2027 for foreign tourists arriving by air.
According to a report by Thai Enquirer, the National Tourism Policy Committee of Thailand has passed the draft of the "450 Baht Entry Fee Scheme" and is currently preparing for a 30-day public hearing to gather opinions from the private sector and various parties.
After the 30-day public hearing process for the proposal is completed, it will be submitted to the National Tourism Policy Committee for review, and then to the cabinet. If approved, the fee collection is expected to begin as early as the first quarter of 2027.
Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Surasak Phancharoenworakul, stated that the government will first conduct a 30-day public consultation before submitting it to the National Tourism Policy Committee and the cabinet for review.
He said, "The 450 baht is a proposed fee standard for foreign tourists entering Thailand by air, land, and sea."
The Nation reported today (15th) that the amount of 450 baht was calculated based on research and standard models to reflect the current economic situation, which is higher than the previous plan of 300 baht for air passengers and 150 baht for land and sea passengers.
According to the plan, the first phase will charge air passengers, and the announcement will take effect 180 days after publication in the "Royal Gazette." The second phase will extend to land and sea passengers approximately 360 days later, to allow time to improve border congestion issues.
Additionally, for frequent travelers, the Thai government is considering a policy where multiple entries into Thailand within the insurance validity period would only require a single fee payment. The payment method will prioritize traveler convenience, possibly including integration into air tickets or payment through websites, mobile applications, or self-service kiosks.
The report indicates that the revenue from the entry fee will be used for traveler insurance, development of tourist attractions and new tourism experiences, as well as tourism research, conferences, and talent cultivation. (Editor: Chung Chin-lung)
