In the World U17 Girls' Volleyball Championship held in Chile, the Taiwan team today (15th) engaged in a fierce five-set battle with Thailand. Relying on captain Cheng Yung-yu and attacker Chang Yun-chen who stepped up in the decisive set, they narrowly won 3-2, marking their second consecutive advancement to the top 4.
Having passed the group stage, the Taiwan women's volleyball team, after sweeping Venezuela in three straight sets in the previous match, successfully advanced to the quarterfinals. Today, they faced Thailand head-on. Led by attacker Chang Yun-chen with 25 points, supported by Cheng Yung-yu and Chen Ting-yi, who each contributed 15 points, they narrowly won 3-2, fulfilling their wish to enter the top 4.
After the start of the first set, the Taiwan women's volleyball team experienced a slow start, still finding their rhythm. Due to numerous errors, they conceded the first set 15-25. Fortunately, the Taiwan team gradually found their rhythm from the second set onwards, and were able to withstand pressure at crucial moments, consecutively taking the lead with scores of 26-24 and 29-27.
However, the Taiwan team could not capitalize on their momentum in the fourth set. Despite saving two set points at one point, they were still tied 22-25. But in the decisive fifth set, the Taiwan team played with great spirit, taking an early 7-2 lead, which laid the foundation for their victory. They ultimately won 15-7, achieving their second consecutive advancement to the top 4. Next, they will face Turkey, seeking a ticket to the championship match and aiming for their best historical result.
