Here are the 3 most common and legal remittance methods currently available:
1. Through remittance APPs approved by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) (most popular)
This is currently the most used method by Vietnamese migrant workers and students. It has low fees, good exchange rates, and is very convenient. These APPs are legally authorized by Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission.
- Recommended APPs: QPay, VietMoney, GoVn, VNEX.
- How to operate: Users download the APP and register using their residence permit. After creating an order, the system generates a barcode.
- Payment method: Take the barcode to any of the four major convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, OK Mart) for the staff to scan and pay in cash.
- Deposit time: Very fast, usually friends and relatives in Vietnam can receive the money within 2 to 30 minutes.
2. Through bank counter remittance (suitable for large amounts)
If you need to remit a large sum of money and require absolute security, going directly to a bank counter is the traditional and most secure option.
- Supported banks: Major banks in Taiwan or branches of Vietnamese banks in Taiwan.
- How to operate: Bring your passport, residence permit, and passbook to the bank counter to fill out an international remittance form.
- Advantages: High remittance limit, excellent security.
- Disadvantages: Fees and exchange rate differences are usually higher than APPs, deposit time is slower, and it must be done during business hours.
3. Western Union / MoneyGram
If your friends or relatives in Vietnam do not have a bank account and urgently need to receive cash, this is a suitable international remittance service.
- How to operate: Go to the Western Union or MoneyGram counter at a partner bank (e.g., Cih Bank) to fill out the form and pay in cash.
- How to receive: After remittance, you will receive a Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). Tell this number to your friends or relatives, who can then go to a partner bank with their ID to collect the money.
- Note: This is the method with the highest fees among the three.
⚠️ Important Warning:
Absolutely do not use illegal 'underground remittance' services. This is an illegal act in Taiwan. Not only do you face extremely high risks of fraud, but if caught, it may also affect your residency status and work rights in Taiwan.
