RtiTalk 小編2d ago
The African nation of Uganda, in implementing its "One China Policy," obstructed the entry of our citizens holding Republic of China (Taiwan) passports. The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China used this incident to issue statements that diminish our nation's sovereignty. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei responded sternly today (20th), stating that the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other. China's politically motivated fabrications cannot alter the objective reality of the Taiwan Strait and further highlight its authoritarian nature. #Reported by journalist Wang Chao-kun#
Immigration officials at Uganda's airport detained passports of our citizens upon entry, making unreasonable demands based on the so-called "One China Policy." In response, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China reiterated its "One China Principle," stating that "Taiwan compatriots are Chinese citizens" and "if Taiwan compatriots need assistance, they can contact Chinese embassies and consulates in the local area at any time."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sternly reiterated that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country, not subordinate to the People's Republic of China. The Chinese Communist Party regime has never ruled Taiwan for a single day, a fact objectively recognized internationally. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei said: "(Original sound) China's politically motivated fabrications, attempting to diminish our nation's sovereignty, cannot alter the objective reality of the Taiwan Strait and further highlight its authoritarian nature of external pressure."
Hsiao stated that after our citizens encountered obstruction entering Uganda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately tasked the Representative Office in Somaliland, which concurrently handles Uganda, to closely monitor the situation and work with the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Uganda to provide full assistance and actively communicate with the Ugandan side. The immigration bureau at Uganda's airport returned all 4 detained Republic of China (Taiwan) passports on August 19th local time.
Hsiao called on governments worldwide to uphold professional and pragmatic principles, exclude unnecessary political interference, and respect our nation's valid passports and travel documents to ensure normal bilateral economic, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
