The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand announced that the expulsion regulations for improper behavior of foreign tourists officially took effect today (28th). Tourists involved in 6 major categories of violations may be immediately deported and even banned from re-entering Thailand in the future.
According to Agence France-Presse and Thai media National Thailand, these 6 categories of behavior include: overstaying, illegal work or business, using or forging official documents, disrespecting Thai culture and breaking the law, engaging in aggressive or disruptive behavior, and any other illegal act punishable by imprisonment of 5 years or more.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, under the new regulations, foreign tourists who pose a threat to others or disrupt public order will be detained, have their visas revoked, and subsequently be deported by the authorities.
In addition, violators may be blacklisted and prohibited from re-entering Thailand.
Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Surasak Phancharoenworakul, stated that this "zero-tolerance" policy targets foreign individuals who disrupt social order. "Thailand remains open to tourists from all over the world who respect our laws, our people, and our culture, and they are always welcome."
Thailand has recently seen a series of incidents involving foreign nationals related to drug crimes, human trafficking, and illegal operation of hotels and schools.
In addition, in July this year, a group of Italian students were loud on the Bangkok BTS, leading to a verbal altercation with a Thai woman who tried to stop them, sparking criticism from Thai netizens. In May, a Spanish and Peruvian couple were witnessed engaging in sexual acts in a public place, violating public indecency laws and being deported. (Editor: Chung Chin-lung)
