Today (9/3), a poignant story emerged from Dongjiu Road, Guishan District, Taoyuan City: A Vietnamese migrant worker, surnamed Ding, who had been in Taiwan for 7 years and missing for 5 years, was found dead in a simple thatched hut built deep in a bamboo forest. To evade detection, he lived for years in extreme conditions without water or electricity, ultimately ending his life in solitude and destitution. While online discussions about his choices are varied, the loss of a life is still a heartbreaking tragedy. This incident once again reveals the harsh reality faced by overstayer migrant workers struggling at the bottom. 📌 Warm reminders and appeals to our migrant friends: Life and health are paramount: Many choose to become "overstayers" hoping to earn more to send home. However, losing health insurance, living long-term in harsh environments, and under immense psychological stress often comes at the cost of irreversible health damage or even life. Utilize legal channels for help: When facing unfair treatment such as labor disputes or wage theft at work or in life, be sure to seek assistance from the 1955 hotline or relevant social welfare organizations. Do not easily choose to become an overstayer and put yourself at risk. Mutual care and watchfulness: Working abroad is not easy.
