🚨 [Social Case] Self-proclaimed 'Living Buddha Reincarnation' Brainwashes Followers! Vietnamese Wife Scams Compatriot Mother and Son to Come to Taiwan as Slaves, Indicted
在台的順17d agoEdited
The Immigration Agency recently busted a shocking religious fraud and human trafficking case. A Vietnamese woman surnamed Nguyen, who married and came to Taiwan, used religious pretexts to lure Vietnamese followers to bring their minor children to Taiwan for unpaid labor, an extremely malicious act!
📌 Case Highlights and Fraudulent Methods:
Absurd Religious Fraud: Ms. Nguyen, who has been married in Taiwan for over 20 years, used doctored photos to claim she was the 'reincarnation of a Living Buddha.' She preached the imminent end of the world online and claimed to cure terminal illnesses, thereby encouraging followers to sell their assets and bring their children to Taiwan on tourist visas for 'spiritual cultivation.'
Cruel Labor Exploitation: Upon arrival, victims had their passports confiscated and their personal freedom restricted. Ms. Nguyen instilled the absurd notion that 'labor can accumulate merit and achieve salvation,' arranging for victims to perform unpaid harvesting and cleaning work on farms and in restaurants. Even children aged 8 to 14 were forced to wake up early every morning to work as free laborers, completely losing their opportunity for education and a normal upbringing.
Successful Rescue and Prosecution: In February 2026, several Vietnamese fathers reported the case to Taiwan from abroad. The task force launched a search operation in May, successfully rescuing 4 exploited Vietnamese children (who have now safely returned to Vietnam and reunited with their families). After investigation, the Changhua District Prosecutors Office indicted Ms. Nguyen, the main suspect, and 7 accomplices on charges including violations of the Human Trafficking Prevention Act and criminal inducement. Ms. Nguyen has pleaded guilty in court and admitted to having no divine powers.
💡 Editor's Note: Exploiting religious beliefs for fraud and labor exploitation, not even sparing innocent children, is outrageous! Migrant worker groups and civic organizations also specifically remind everyone that in Taiwan, encountering 'passport confiscation, restriction of freedom, or unpaid labor' are clear signs of human trafficking crimes. If you discover suspected forced labor situations around you, please be vigilant and report it bravely to eradicate illegal activities!
🗣️ Discussion Time for RtiTalk Readers:
This case of human trafficking disguised as religious activity is heartbreaking, especially with minors involved. When living abroad, if you find your compatriots or friends seemingly falling into such unreasonable 'religious organizations' or 'illegal labor traps,' how would you try to dissuade them or seek external help?
